Matt's Medical Tent Talks (Week 15 Recap)

December 18, 2019

It’s CHAMPIONSHIP week. Let that sink in. You’ve watched, listened, and read for the better part of the last year to get to this point, and HERE WE ARE. And, yes, I said “WE”, as I’m trying to take home a chip this week too! After last week’s disaster resulting in the longest article I’ve written all year, Week 15 was (mostly) a breeze and will be the shortest article I write all year with just two big names and one minor one. Let’s jump in!

Dalvin Cook, RB, MIN – Shoulder

Many will forget how good Dalvin Cook has been this year if (when) he ends up costing them a championship. If you have Cook, you may very well already be out of contention due to his new shoulder injury in week 15. While the severity and exact diagnosis of the injury is currently unknown, it’s simply never good to see a running back suffer a shoulder injury as we’ve seen over the course of the year with guys like Jordan Howard and James Conner. One bum shoulder is one thing and may allow a back to compensate utilizing the other shoulder to…well…shoulder the brunt of forces coming their way, but to injury two of two shoulders is just not conducive to playing the position. Minnesota is one game away from locking up a playoff spot and they play the Packers this week, which is a favorable matchup for the running game. I just don’t see how Cook plays a full allotment of snaps and that’s IF he plays. I believe whomever the backup running back is this week for the Vikings, Boone or Mattison (questionable with an ankle injury), will be a championship-winning play.

Prognosis: Day-to-day; GTD

Chris Godwin, Scotty Miller, WR’s, TB – Hamstrings

Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Scotty Miller all OUT with hamstring injuries. Quite a bizarre case, but it is indeed true. Miller, after scoring his first TD on Sunday, has already been placed on IR, while the Bucs are holding out hope that Godwin can somehow play this week. Unfortunately, that is just not likely has Godwin was ruled out almost immediately on Sunday indicating a significant strain that will not heal in a week. After a breakout season in which Godwin was the number one receiver in fantasy for a time, his season will end in the semis. It’s now Breshad Perriman and Justin Watson (yeesh) outside for the Bucs as Jameis Winston continues to chuck it. Perriman seems to be a solid bet for lineups this week, but the rest of the pass-catchers are just projecting out what SHOULD happen due to the injuries. Besides Perriman, how lucky do you feel?

Prognosis: Both OUT
