Preseason is upon us and the smell of the Football and Fantasy Football season is strong and Fantasy Football talks whether it's podcasts, at work, the radio etc begin to take over out life's. We start following FF websites, social media reports, team reports, beat writer reports and we start shaping our thoughts about the upcoming fantasy season.
We begin by looking at different analysts rankings and wondering why some players are ranked so high or low. Go to the computer or pull a paper and pencil out and start to shape our own rankings and or start to create our own tiers. It's when we begin to dig deeper for the sleepers that might help shape our playoff and hopefully championship Fantasy team. Fact is every year there are players ranked way to high and some way too low. Stay open to the fact that your rankings may change as the off season continues and the preseason games show us a little more of what we need to see.
Last year I targeted Matt Ryan in every league as he had basically fallen off the fantasy football map being ranked outside the top 20 in most pre-season ranks. He finished in the Top 3 Fantasy Quarterbacks at the end of the season. Another target was Melvin Gordon ADP somewhere in the 6th to 7th round in 2016. I drafted him in basically every league I was in. He came into the league with high expectations but things in his first full season just didn't seem to pan out. Fast forward to this season and he is in the top ten for Running Backs and sometimes taken in the top 10 of the draft.
One player I feel has been forgotten and undervalued this offseason is Brandon Marshall the new number 2 Wide receiver for the New York Giants. One year removed from a 109 catch 1500 yard
14 TD season in which he had Ryan Fitzpatrick as his Quarterback and didn't have a receiver like OBJ taking attention away. Still only 33 years old he has a lot left in the tank and is on a much better offense. I look for him to have top end WR2 numbers to possibly low end WR1 numbers.
Part 2 of this article Matt Spencer and I will dig deeper into the vastly undervalued WR 2's around the league. Stay tuned!
