It’s bound to happen. It’s an inevitable fact that players are bound to bust one season or another and fantasy football owners have to pay the price. However, there is something that you can do to prevent this tragedy from bringing your team vibe down. You can read this article, follow us on Twitter, and listen to The Hateful 8 Fantasy Football Podcast. If you successfully follow these steps then you too can avoid becoming a victim of the fantasy busts.
Eddie Lacy (RB - SEA)
I know that I’m definitely not one to talk about needing to lose a few pounds, but I think I’d be pretty motivated if I got a hefty check every time I met one of my goals. That notwithstanding, Lacy is currently sitting at 48 overall which puts his ADP in the late 4th, early 5th round and that draft price is way too rich for my blood when you consider the facts. Lacy hasn’t played football since Week 6 of last season and he hasn’t been a desirable fantasy asset since 2014. On top of all that, he’s on a Seattle team that had one of the worst offensive lines in the league last season. He’s being drafted as an RB2, but I have him finishing as a Flex option at best since I currently have him ranked 95th overall. Needless to say, he probably won’t end up on any of my fantasy teams this season.
Martellus Bennett (TE - GB)
One of the biggest TE enigmas out there today is none other than Mr. Bennett. Last season alone, Bennett finished as a TE1 five different times, but he also finished as a bottom-25 TE seven times. “But Jonathan, he’s with Green Bay and has Aaron Rodgers throwing to him now.” Yeah, but those stats from last season are when Tom Brady was his QB and he was in a Patriots offense that utilize the TE position much more often than Green Bay does. He’s currently being drafted at 97 overall and I’ve got him ranked at 152 overall. If Green Bay decides to change their strategy in his favor then he could surely be a TE1, but I’m not touching him otherwise.
Carlos Hyde (RB - SF)
I know the report just came out that Hyde is getting the majority of first team reps, but I’m still not buying it. Hyde has something to prove to the new regime in San Francisco and I doubt that he will remain the starter this season because he will either get injured or will be overtaken by Hightower, Williams, or a combination of both. With that being said, I’m certainly not taking him at his current ADP of 27th overall if I don’t believe that I’m going to get RB1 production from him all season long.
Donte Moncrief (WR - IND)
Speaking of things that I’m not buying into, Donte Moncrief is another. Now, I’m not saying that he doesn’t have the potential to be productive, but he missed the majority of last season and the highest finish he has ever had in his career is the WR39. If he can stay healthy and really connect with Luck this offseason then he can certainly live up to his ADP. However, I’m very skeptical that he can do so and he is also currently being drafted 66th overall and there’s too much risk there for me to take him. I have him ranked currently at 92nd overall and I will gladly take a shot on him in the 9th or 10th round, but I also don’t believe I will ever have that opportunity.
