In part two of my Bargain Bin players I am looking at the wide receiver position, there are a lot of excellent value wide receivers this year. All these players can be drafted in the 7th round and onwards, so go get these guys and win your leagues.
Willie Snead - 88th Overall, WR 36
With Brandin Cooks leaving this offseason to join the Patriots the top two guys for the Saints now are 2nd year receiver Michael Thomas and Willie Snead. With Cooks gone there will be more targets to go around but Thomas will be covered by the top corners and possibly double teamed, Cooks leaving will benefit them both but I personally see Snead benefiting more. Over the past two seasons Snead has seen over 100 targets each year from Drew Brees, that’s bound to go up with him being the number two option in a pass first offense. More targets, more fantasy points.
His touchdown numbers are my only worry for him as he has had trouble finding the end zone but being able to get him in the 7th or 8th round is immense value. If he can stay healthy he will repay that draft price. A valuable player in both formats but especially in PPR.
Pierre Garcon - Overall 114th, WR 45
Pierre Garcon is reuniting with head coach Kyle Shanahan at the 49ers this year which should see his receiving numbers go up. The last season the two were together Garcon led the league in receptions with 113 back in 2013. Without Shanahan, Garcon puts up 10.2 points per game but with him he averages 15.8 points per game in PPR scoring. I like those numbers. With Jeremy Kerley and Marquise Goodwin the only other noticeable receivers on the roster Garcon will be the no.1 receiver on the team.
The 49ers currently have Brian Hoyer as their quarterback and he may not be great but he can keep his receivers fantasy relevant, (Mr. Osweiler you let us down last year).
If you’re lucky fantasy players will be off Garcon as he hasn’t had as many opportunities in the last couple of seasons at Washington but he has had a safe floor in PPR leagues for a while now. Being reunited in a Shanahan offence his floor is only going to get higher. He’s never been a prolific touchdown scorer
but the targets he’s going to receive will more than make up for it. I wouldn’t expect massive scores but I would hope for a high consistent floor, he will be good in standard leagues and great in PPR. At his current value, I want him on all my teams, big year ahead.
Quincy Enunwa - Overall 181st, WR 66
Before we start the Jets have the worst roster in the league, I’m sorry but I had to get that off my chest. In New York, there have been a lot of changes this offseason, they let a lot of their veteran players go this year including their no.1 receiver for the past two seasons, Brandon Marshall to the New York Giants. In fantasy last year Marshall was being drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round and only posted 788 receiving yards, 59 receptions and three touchdowns in what was a terrible year for him. The Jets still have Eric Decker on the roster and after only playing three games last year through injuries, coming off shoulder and hip surgeries, he figures to be the No.1 this year, unless they cut him in the Post-June cut to save money, unlikely but stranger things have happened. He should be ready for training camp so he’s certainly one to follow.
The Jets needed someone to step up last year and Quincy Enunwa in his 3rd year in the league did just that, totaling 857 receiving yards, 58 receptions, and four touchdowns with some of the worst quarterback play in the league. This year the Jets quarterback depth leaves a lot to be desired with new addition Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenburg who will all be trying to lock down the no.1 job. The Jets also changed their offensive coordinator with Chan Gailey retiring they added John Morton, who is expected to go with a more pass heavy approach, which is good news for the receivers on the team. A bad team who will be passing a lot is always a good sign for fantasy. With the team passing more and Marshall gone Enunwa should get plenty of targets, he will have the chance to reach 1,000 yards if he can stay healthy.
Nobody expects the Jets to be good this year but getting a receiver with the upside of Enunwa this late in drafts is what I love. Draft him in the last few rounds then pat yourself on the back.
Good luck bargain hunting!
